Ventilation Hood Noisy

Topics:

  • Why is the hood so noisy?
  • Blower motor makes a loud noise whether on low or high speed
  • Vent hood whistles
  • Rheostat on fan motor will not lower enough to reduce excessive noise

Troubleshooting:

Many factors could contribute to poor ventilation noise.

  1. Make sure the ventilation blower meets Wolf's CFM requirements for the unit being ventilated.
  2. Specific causes of excessive noise include:
    • A 90° elbow directly off the ventilation hood's transition.
    • Less than 1' of straight ductwork off the ventilation hood's transition.
    • An unusual number of 45° or 90° elbows in the ductwork.
    • Multiple transitions within the ductwork.
    • A duct run less than 40'.
    • Smaller ductwork than recommended.
    • Ductwork that is not rigid.
    • Metal tapping noise may be damper being forced open by wind and a secondary damper installation may be required to resolve.
    • If an in-line or remote blower is installed, verify the electrical wiring from the blower to the ventilation hood is properly secured.
  3. If any of the above do not comply with Wolf guidelines, a qualified HVAC professional may need to review the ventilation installation.
