Operating out of Seattle, Pete and his two sons, Jonah and Dylan, harvest wild Pacific salmon and halibut with the family's two fishing vessels, the 40-foot Njord and the 38-foot Loki. Summers are spent fishing Alaskan waters aboard the Njord. In autumn they work the Puget Sound salmon run with the Loki, a 1959 classic that Pete has owned since the 1970s.
Descended from Norwegian boat builders, the Knutsons harvest the wild fish, dress the catch immediately at sea, and market directly to consumers through farmers' markets, coöps, and at grocery stores. Pete Knutson salmon can be found by name on the menus of fine restaurants in the Seattle area.
