About Cynthia Stern
I am the President and lead Designer of DRP International Design, Inc. located in San Diego California and I have been designing interiors for over 25 years. Growing up in Los Angeles was a wonderful introduction into the world of Design.
During my high school and College days, I dabbled in designing clothing, fabrics, wallpaper as well as jeweler y design. I also studied Architecture & Interior Design at UCLA. I paid for both undergraduate and graduate degrees by designing home interiors. After receiving two graduate degrees in psychology from Pepperdine University, I was hired by the Red Cross to council victims who had lost homes in earthquakes and fires. I not only counseled but was also hired by these clients to design their lost homes. The Carlsbad fire was the event that brought me from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Our firm not only specializes in High End Residential, we also have many Commercial l Accounts. Recently, doctor’s offices have been a substantial part of our business. We have designed several hundred homes in Southern California as well as in New York, Washington DC, Chicago and Vacation Resorts along the Mexican Coast. DRP International Design is the parent company of both Del Mar Windows & Tint and of Sun Solutions in which we provides Window Coverings and Window Film to National Accounts throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Q&A with Cynthia Stern
Where do you find design inspiration?
I find inspiration everywhere at all times. It just never seems to stop for me; my focus is always on people and their homes. I am inspired by the beautiful environment in which I live as well as by continual travel. My most recent travels include visiting South Africa and Botswana. The natural characteristics of the wild are a continual reminder of the excitement and calmness I experienced while traveling, thus inspiring me to bring nature indoors by tying in organic materials such as woods and stone and then interlacing man made materials like glass and tile results in unique and unexpected combinations. Additionally, I collect International design books and magazines. I currently have been excited about Casa Vogue and other Brazilian publications.
How do you approach the design process?
I listen to my clients; we discuss needs, wants, aesthetics and the practical. I blend tastes and desires into a space that reflects life styles. We show our clients sketches, renderings and inspirational pictures to help define the looks that spark interest. I then figure out where we need to put our attention to define focal points. I work with creative designers; we talk, share and continuously communicate and exchange Ideas. We strive to make sure we provide our clients a home that is well planned and uniquely designed.
What makes your aesthetic stand out amongst other designers?
I work very hard at getting to know products, skilled craftsman and work collectively with the trades to continuously expand and build upon our knowledge and design. Perfection, detail, uniqueness and the unexpected sets my designs apart.
What is the greatest value you provide to your clients?
Good ear, sound advice, years of knowledge, willingness to research ideas and with the aim to be innovative and creative.
