Descaling the Wolf Legacy Convection Steam Oven

Lime deposits are a natural result of steam creation and will slowly build up inside the unit's boiler and water lines.

• Depending on water hardness and usage, the unit should be descaled every 6-18 months to remove build-up. 
• Descaling more frequently will not harm the unit.

Before Descaling:

• Durgol® is the only recommended descaling solution at this time. Other products and substances can cause permanent damage to the unit. For more information, including purchasing instructions, see Convection Steam Oven Descaling Solution.
• Descaling requires emptying and filling the water tank several times throughout the cycle. Plan to be present for the entire descaling cycle.
  • Descaling takes about 45-75 minutes, depending on whether additional rinse cycles are necessary.
  • For safety reasons, the descale program cannot be interrupted or stopped once it is started.
• Descaling does not clean the oven interior. Descaling removes mineral deposits from the mechanical parts of the unit. It is not necessary to remove racks or pans for the descale cycle. See also, Legacy Convection Steam Oven Cleaning Information.

To Descale the Unit:

Note that Wolf recommends running the cleaning process immediately after the solution is put into the unit.

1. With the oven off, touch SETTINGS.
2. Use the arrows to select Descale, then touch ENTER. “Add 1 pt (0.5 L) descaler—and touch ENTER” appears on the display.
3. Touch WATER and remove the water tank from the unit.
4. Pour the entire Durgol® Swiss Steamer descaling solution into the tank. Do not dilute.
5. Install the tank and touch ENTER.
6. After approximately 30 minutes, “Pour away descaler— Add 2 pt (1 L) water” appears on the display. Remove the water tank, turn on the sink faucet, and pour the descaling solution down the drain.
   • Failure to dilute descaling solution before discarding may discolor sink and drain.
7. Fill the tank with warm tap water and install the tank. “Descale appliance—1st rinsing cycle” appears on the display. After approximately 45 minutes, “Pour away water—Descaling completed” appears on the display.
8. Depending on the level of soil in the rinse water, the oven determines whether additional rinse cycles are necessary. Follow instructions on the display.
   • Rinse cycles vary in length from approximately 5 - 20 minutes, getting shorter as they repeat.
9. Once the rinse cycles are complete, remove, empty, and dry the water tank. Wipe all stainless steel surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does descaling take?

• Descaling takes about 45 minutes if only one rinse cycle is needed.
  
  • If the unit determines more rinse cycles are necessary, then the time needed will increase by up to 30 minutes.
  • It is not necessary to rinse the unit more than the descale program requests, but it can be done by starting another descale cycle.
• The amount of time required for the descale process may vary based on the amount of mineral buildup in the unit.

Can the CSO descale process be paused or canceled?

• For safety reasons, the descale program cannot be interrupted or stopped once it is started.
• "Descaling aborted" appears in the display if the unit is turned off in the middle of the descale cycle.
• Even if power is disconnected to the unit, Descale mode will restart and the full descale cycle will be run after power is restored.

What if I forgot to add descale solution?

• Running the descale cycle without descaling solution is harmless.
• If the descale cycle is started without descaling solution, the unit will continue to run the cycle as normal, but the unit will not be descaled. 

The unit display says "Did not descale." What do I do?

• If a substantial amount of scale has built up, the unit may require two descale cycles to remove all of it.
• Hard water and infrequent descaling can increase scale buildup.

• Wolf recommends descaling the appliance once per year, regardless of if the descale message has appeared or not.
• Units in areas with hard water may need to be descaled more often. For information on measuring water hardness, refer to:
