Dishwasher Tub Covered with White Film

Topics:

  • White film on inside of dishwasher tub
  • Stainless steel tub liner has white film or residue

Cause:

  • Hard water
  • Too much detergent
  • Too much rinse aid

Answer:

Hard water will leave a white film on the dishwasher interior.

  • White film is more noticeable on stainless steel tubs than on dishwashers with white plastic tubs.
  • The removal of phosphates from detergent causes more white film residue, see Phosphate Information.
  • To remove the white film on a dishwasher tub, refer to How to Clean a Dishwasher.
