Induction Boil Dry Technology

Topics:

  • Why did the induction burner turn off?
  • What happens if there is nothing in a pan, will the burner work?
  • Will the Induction Cooktop turn off if the pan is too hot?
  • If all water boils out of pan on an Induction Range burner, will it turn off?

Answer:

Induction Cooktops and Ranges cut power to individual burners if they reach a too high of a temperature.

  • In a boil-dry situation, this protects the cookware and the cooktop.
  • This also prevents a pan from getting hot enough to flash boil.
  • Once the burner is back to an acceptable temperature, power is restored to it.

The time to boil dry is dependent on the heat setting and pan size.

  • The feature is calibrated off of pan temperatures. A boil dry will escalate pan temperatures to over 500°F for a short time.
  • The safety feature of boil dry involves folding back power to the element when that 500°F temperature is reached. The unit does not shut down nor give an indication of some issue; the power going to the element reduces to maintain that upper pan limit.
