Designed as the true heart of the home, A Culinary Atrium transforms the entire rear of the client’s residence into a light-filled gathering space tailored for both celebration and everyday living. By reimagining how the kitchen and family room functioned together, the design team created a kitchen that feels expansive yet welcoming—large enough to host lively holiday gatherings, yet intimate enough for quiet family dinners. Architectural detailing, thoughtful spatial balance, and professional-grade Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances work in harmony to support how this family cooks, entertains, and connects.

A Complete Spatial Reversal

The original layout placed a small kitchen beside an oversized family room. By removing the wall between them and reversing their functions, the design unlocked the home’s full potential—transforming the former family room into a generously scaled kitchen and reimagining the original kitchen as a walk-up bar and media space.

A Kitchen Designed for Gathering

Now occupying the entire back of the home, the kitchen serves as a true great room. Its scale comfortably accommodates large family celebrations while remaining well-suited for everyday meals and more intimate occasions.

Vaulted Ceiling with Architectural Impact

By leveraging attic space above, the designer introduced a dramatic shiplap vaulted ceiling that brings height, texture, and architectural interest to the kitchen—enhancing both light and volume.

A Multi-Functional Island at the Center

Anchoring the space is a substantial island designed to support multiple roles, from food preparation to casual dining and conversation, reinforcing the kitchen’s role as a social hub.

Professional Appliances as Visual Balance

A 48-inch Wolf range paired with a large Sub-Zero refrigerator creates visual symmetry along the back wall. Together, these appliances ground the space while delivering the performance needed for frequent entertaining and family meals.
