Sub-Zero Freezer Company and Wolf Appliance Company Announce Winners of Kitchen Design Contest

Madison, WI (April 11, 2002) - Sub-Zero Freezer Company, the leading manufacturer of residential refrigeration, and Wolf Appliance Company, a leading manufacturer of professional cooking instruments, announced the four national winners of the company's prestigious kitchen design contest.

For the first time since Sub-Zero acquired Wolf Appliance Company in March 2000, the company awarded grand prize winners in two categories-in the Sub-Zero category, utilizing a Sub-Zero appliance in the kitchen, and in the Sub-Zero/Wolf category, utilizing both Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances in the kitchen.

JOHN C. SENHAUSER, an architect from Cincinnati, Ohio, took first place in the Sub-Zero/Wolf category and was awarded a $15,000 prize.
ADOLFO PEREZ, an architect from Newton, Mass., took first place in the Sub-Zero category and was awarded a $15,000 prize.
CARRIE ANNE DEANE, a kitchen designer from New Canaan, Conn., received $10,000 for placing second.
BARBARA HOUSTON, a designer from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, received $5,000 for her third-place prize.

Additional national awards were also distributed. Terry Holmstead from Draper, Utah, received the "best use of 700 Series in a non-kitchen environment" award. Mary Knott from Scottsdale, Ariz., was awarded "showroom winner." Doug Durbin from Highland Park, Ill., received the "best use of 400 Series" award. Each was awarded a $5,000 prize. Fifty-three regional winners received cash prizes each of $500.

Since its inception in 1993, the Sub-Zero/Wolf kitchen design contest has become the coveted win in the professional home design category. Nearly 900 entries were received from professional kitchen designers and were carefully reviewed by a panel of independent judges in the industry. Entries were judged on good use of space, innovative and brilliant kitchen design and on their use of a Sub-Zero or Wolf appliance in a well-designed and beautiful home. This year's judges included Fu-Tung Cheng, Cheng Design, Berkeley, Calif.; Mick De Giulio, de Giulio kitchen design, inc., Chicago, Ill.; Jeff De Mure, AIA, architect with Bloodgood Sharp Buster Architects And Planners, El Dorado Hills, Calif.; Jamie Drake, ASID, Drake Design Associates, New York, N.Y.; B. Leslie Hart, senior account director for Meredith Corporation and a National Kitchen and Bath Association Hall of Fame member, New York, N.Y.; Tom Kelly, NorthShore Kitchens Plus, Inc., Marblehead, Mass.; and Joan Kohn, producer and host for HGTV, Chicago, Ill.

"We are thrilled to recognize innovation and craftsmanship in kitchen design," said Jim Bakke, president and chief executive officer for Sub-Zero and Wolf. "This is our way of saying thank you to industry professionals for making Sub-Zero and Wolf the best appliances of choice by the professional design community."

The Sub-Zero/Wolf kitchen design contest is held every two years and recognizes kitchen designers, architects, interior designers and builders for advancing outstanding kitchen design. To honor the participants, Sub-Zero hosted the best 53 regional winners during a recent expense-paid weekend in Scottsdale, Ariz.
