Sub-Zero Classic (BI, CL) French Door Opens by Itself

Topics:

  • Classic (BI, CL) French door pops open when the adjacent door is closed
  • CL3650UFD, CL3650UFDID, CL4250UFD, CL4250UFDID, CL4850UFD, CL4850UFDID, BI-36UFD, BI-36UFDID, BI-42UFD, or BI-42UFDID refrigerator door popping open
  • When one door is closed, the other door opens

Cause:

  • Closing one of the French doors compresses the air in the refrigerator
  • Compressed air forces the closed door open 1/8" to 1/4"

Answer:

The compressed air from closing one of the French doors forces the closed door open 1/8" to 1/4". This is referred to as "bounce back"

  • The amount the door opens due to the bounce back varies with the weight of items on the door.
  • Door may pop open further than 1/8" to 1/4", or not close properly after opening, if either or both doors have no load on the door shelves.
  • If door opens further than 1/8" to 1/4" but closes properly, this is normal operation.
  • If door does not close properly after opening, place water bottles or similar items on door shelves and test operation.
