Classic (CL) Series Humidity Control

Topics:

  • How to adjust refrigerator drawer humidity
  • Classic (CL) Series humidity options
  • Difference between low humidity, normal humidity, and enhanced humidity settings
  • Crisper drawer humidity level
  • Can refrigerator crisper drawer humidity be changed

Answer:

To optimize food preservation, the refrigerator humidity level is adjustable between Low Humidity, Normal Humidity, and Enhanced (increased) Humidity.

  • Changing the humidity level affects the entire refrigerator zone.
    • The unit does not control the humidity in the drawers independently from the rest of the refrigerator area.
    • The evaporator fans continue to run independently after the compressor stops running to push the moisture off the evaporator coil, which returns the water vapor to the cabinet and increases humidity within the refrigerator.
    • The humidity level options are based on thorough Sub-Zero food preservation testing.
  • From the home screen, press the gear icon to enter the settings screen, and then press the Crisper Drawer icon to adjust the humidity level.
    • Humidity levels are selected under the Crisper Drawer option in the Settings Screen.
  • Enhanced Humidity:
    • Some vegetables (leafy greens, herbs, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, carrots, peppers, and asparagus) benefit from increased humidity.
    • Enhanced humidity may cause condensation and moisture buildup in other areas of the refrigerator zone. If this happens, set the humidity level to normal.
    • In the crisper drawer settings, two dark water droplets indicates Enhanced Humidity.
  • Normal Humidity:
    • Proteins and fruits typically benefit from normal humidity.
    • Normal humidity is just that, normal, and is the same humidity level as any other current Sub-Zero.
    • Setting the humidity control to normal is considered the same as turning the humidity control off.
    • In the crisper drawer settings, one dark water droplet indicates Enhanced Humidity.
  • Low Humidity:
    • Low humidity creates a dryer environment by lowering the moisture level within the refrigerator.
    • Setting the humidity control to low humidity may reduce the storage life of fruits and vegetables and is not recommended.
    • The low humidity setting is not explained in the Use and Care Guide and is not recommended unless all causes of excessive condensation and moisture have been eliminated from the list of possibilities.
    • In the crisper drawer settings, no dark water droplets indicates Low Humidity.
  • If excessive condensation or moisture appears inside the refrigerator, verify the humidity control is set to Normal.
