Convection Steam Oven Odor

Topics:

  • The Convection Steam Oven (CSO) smells bad or has an odor
  • How to get rid of weird smell in Convection Steam Oven

Answer:

  1. Make sure that the oven is wiped out after each use:
    1. Leave the oven door partially open and allow interior to cool until it is just warm.
    2. Use a damp, soft cloth with a few drops of mild detergent to clean any spills or food residue.
    3. Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
  2. For plumbed models, make sure the drain tube filter has been cleaned recently.
    1. Wash the drain tube filter by hand with soap and water.
  3. If an odor is still present:
    1. Turn the oven on Steam at 175°F for 30 minutes to loosen food soil.
      • If desired, steam sliced lemons to help remove smells.
    2. Allow the cavity to cool until just warm to the touch.
    3. Wipe out cavity with a soft cloth.
  4. Running a descale on the oven can also help eliminate residual odors.

To avoid oven odors:

  • When possible, wait to season food until after cooking. This prevents seasonings from permeating the oven cavity.
  • When using the perforated tray to steam, place a solid tray underneath to catch drips.
  • Wipe out oven after each use to prevent build-up of spills and keep surfaces dry.
