GR Gas Range Odor When Using Broil

Topics:

  • Customer complaint of abnormal odor from broiler burner on GR Series Gas Range
  • Smell when using broiler
  • Is a burning plastic odor normal when the broiler is in use?

Troubleshooting:

It is normal for some manufacturing debris or insulation to remain on the broiler burner body after production. Smoke or oil smells may emanate from the oven during the burn off process which is considered normal.

To burn off remaining insulation or other odor causing substances:
  1. Run the broiler for 40 minutes.
  2. Allow it to cool, and restart the process.
  3. Repeat this burn off process until no odor remains when broiler is in use.
    • This may take up to 10 broiler cycles or up to 6-1/2 hours of continuous broiler use to eliminate all odor.
    • The best approach is to do this the first 10 times food is broiled in the oven.
    • Broil the food then let it continue to run to 40 minutes even if the food is done prior to that.
