Traditional Charm Reimagined with Modern Twist

In a 1931 Tudor Revival home, the owners sought to transform a lackluster 1970s kitchen into an open and welcoming environment for family connection. The small, outdated space transformed into an open-concept kitchen and living area with contemporary flair, with nods to the home’s original architecture. The result is a beautifully balanced space that honors the home’s charm while catering to the family’s modern lifestyle.

HONORING TUDOR DESIGN

Honoring the home’s original architectural features, thick plaster Tudor-style arches and antique limestone flooring provide continuity with the rustic stone floors of the adjacent rooms. Meanwhile, white oak beams and planking reference similar design elements used throughout the house.

EXPANDING THE KITCHEN

Expanding the kitchen involved removing bearing walls, including the original brick exterior wall. Oak beams on sculpted plaster brackets now bring the kitchen, breakfast area, and lounge together seamlessly.

CONTRASTS IN STYLE

The Tudor-style envelope of the original design contrasts with new, contemporary appliances, finishes, lighting, and design details. This blend fulfills the homeowners' fondness for modern design while creating a dynamic and visually appealing space.

BOLD APPLIANCES GROUND THE SPACE

The two Sub-Zero PRO Series Refrigerators form the centerpiece of the food prep area. Meanwhile, the Wolf Dual Fuel Range grounds the opposite wall and provides ample oven space and a griddle for the family’s pancake breakfasts.

FUNCTIONAL BUTLER’S PANTRY

Rather than a remote wine cellar, the homeowners desired easily accessible wine storage, achieved through two Sub-Zero Wine Storage units in the butler’s pantry. Two additional Wolf Built-In Ovens—at a more convenient eye-level height—provide necessary baking space for holidays and family gatherings.
