Cove Dishwasher Water Spots or White Film on Racks and Dishes
Topics:
- Glasses are not clean
- Glassware comes out of Cove Dishwasher with spots or streaks
- White film on silverware
- Glassware is cloudy, spotty, or streaked
- Spots on dishwasher racks or tub
Cause:
- Not using rinse aid
- Using a wash cycle with low temperatures
- Using too much detergent
- Undissolved detergent
- Dispenser cup malfunction
- Water supply quality change (hardness increase, particulate increase, etc.)
- Water softener hardness setting not correct (softener model only)
Answer:
If spotting or streaking appears on glassware or dishes washed in a dishwasher:
- For softener models, check the Water Softener hardness setting. The default is 0. Refer to Cove Dishwasher Water Hardness for more information.
- For softener models, verify salt compartment is not empty. See Cove Dishwasher Water Softener.
- Make sure a Quick or Rinse cycle is not being run.
- On Cove DW2450 softener models, these cycles do not regenerate the softener.
- On Cove DW2451 models, regeneration occurs during all wash cycles.
- If there is a noticeable pause before the wash cycle starts, this is the regeneration process and is normal.
- If the door is opened during regeneration, the display will show "Water Softener active. Press Start and close door."
- On Cove DW2450 softener models, these cycles do not regenerate the softener.
- Verify type and amount of detergent being used. See Cove Dishwasher Detergent Suggestions.
- Use a rinse aid to reduce streaking and spotting. Refer to Cove Dishwasher Adding Rinse Aid.
- See also, Cove Dishwasher Rinse Aid Suggestions.
- Run a Normal cycle with Sani Rinse turned on.

- When loading the dishwasher:
- Do not prerinse dishes. Only scrape off large particles and load the dishes into the machine. Cove Dishwashers work best with some food residue. Without food residue, detergent may stick to dishes, leading to film and spots.
- Do not overload the machine. Water should circulate freely for adequate rinsing and draining.
