Mountain Penthouse

Regional Award Winner KDC 2010-12

The total redesign of a mountain penthouse was to bestow a contemporary edge to an alpine vernacular, void of cliché reference while still evoking the comfort and warmth desired of a winter resort.

The client requested a kitchen configuration that would accommodate his young family, but also be flexible enough to entertain larger groups of vacationing guests. The open kitchen, dining, and living spaces were arranged to engage the mountain views.

Millwork was paramount in reinforcing the warmth of the envelope while aiding the strength of architectural form; Sub-Zero 27" side-by-side fridge & freezers were seamlessly integrated into the space, while the Wolf 24" Drawer Microwave Oven offered practical accessibility for the youngsters. The Wolf 48” Dual Fuel Range with matching hood fan is the anchor point for the kitchen, and offers the versatility caterers would require.

Incorporating a multitude of new mechanical and electrical requirements within the restrictions of the envelope demanded meticulously tailored detailing as well.

The project's success, measured in part by the clients' statement that expectations had been well surpassed, was the culmination of a daunting amount of precise planning and execution – the conclusion of which is a refined, luxurious, and ultimately comfortable vacation penthouse nestled in the mountains.
