GR Series and R Series Gas Range Electrical and Gas Connections

Topics:

  • Where are the electrical and gas connections on the GR Series and R Series Gas Range?
  • Is it necessary to follow the recommended electrical and gas locations specified in the installation guide?
  • Can electrical and gas locations be moved?

Answer:

The electrical and gas locations specified in the product installation guide allow the unit to be installed without interference.

  • Moving electrical and gas connections outside of the specified zones may cause the unit to not be properly installed.
  • Always follow Wolf installation specifications.
  • It may be necessary to recess the electrical box for the power cord. Wolf does not have instructions or recommendations for how to do this.
  • Consult a local electrician and always follow local codes.

Electrical Installation

Installation must comply with all applicable electrical codes.

  • Locate the electrical supply flush with the wall or floor, and within the shaded area shown in the product Installation Guide.
  • A separate circuit, servicing only this appliance is required.
  • A ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) is not recommended and may cause interruption of operation.
  • The power cord must be plugged into a mating 3-prong grounded outlet, grounded to conform with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70 latest edition, or Canadian Electrical Code (CSA) and all local codes and ordinances.

Gas Installation

Installation must comply with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, with the National Fuel Gas Code.

  • Locate the gas supply within the shaded area shown in the product Installation Guide.
  • The range is equipped for use with natural or liquid propane (LP) gas. It is design certified by the Canadian Standards
Association (CSA) for natural or LP gases.
  • The gas pressure regulator is built into the unit.
  • The range must be connected to a regulated gas supply.
  • The supply line must be equipped with an approved external gas shut-off valve near the range in an accessible location. Do not block access to the shut-off valve.
    • A gas supply of 3/4" (19) ID line must be provided to the range.
    • R Series Range:
      • If local codes permit, a certified, 3' (0.9 m) long, 1/2" (13) or 3/4" (19) ID flexible metal appliance connector is recommended to connect the units 1/2" NPT female inlet to the gas supply line.
    • GR Series Range:
      • If local codes permit, a certified, 3' (0.9 m) long, 1/2" (13) or 3/4" (19) ID flexible metal appliance connector is recommended to connect the units 1/2" NPT male inlet to the gas supply line.
      • Note: Page 5 of the installation guide advises unit has a 1/2" Female connection for the gas line; this is incorrect, the unit has a 1/2" threaded Male connector.
    • Use pipe joint compounds that are suitable for use with natural or LP gas.
  • The appliance and its shut-off valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing of the system at test pressures in excess of .5 psi (3.5 kPa).
    • The appliance must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shut-off valve during any pressure testing of the system at test pressures equal to or less than .5 psi (3.5 kPa).
  • Wolf GR series natural Gas Ranges will work up to 8,600' (2621 m) in altitude without adjustment.
    • If the installation exceeds this elevation, contact an authorized Wolf dealer for a high altitude conversion kit.
    • LP models do not require conversion.
  • Wolf R series natural and LP Gas Ranges will work up to 10,250' (3124 m) in altitude without any adjustment.
    • If the installation exceeds this elevation, contact an authorized Wolf dealer for a high altitude conversion kit.
