Clean Grill Grates
Several products may be used to help safely remove food soil and minor rust from grill grates.
- Various heavy-duty scouring pads can be used on a slightly warm grill with soap and water.
- Scrubbers with handles may be easier to use.
- Chain mail scrubbers or steel wool scrubbing pads, such as those used to clean cast iron pans.
- Use only coarser grit steel wool designed for kitchen use. Do NOT use fine-grit steel wool meant for woodworking or other projects.
- Wooden grill scrapers can remove larger pieces of food debris from grill grates after each use.
- Grill bricks, frequently made of pumice stone, scour away food soil, but can also leave behind significant dust.
- If using a grill brick to clean the grill grates, wipe down the grates with a rag afterwards to remove residue.
Remove Rust from Grill Grates
