Gas Odor When Unit in Use

Troubleshooting:

DO NOT use a unit if gas odor seems excessive, does not subside during use, or carbon monoxide (CO) alarms are activated.

Some gas odor will be noticed during use of a gas-burning product. This odor may be more noticeable during the burner ignition process or during first use of LP products.

  1. If the gas odor is present with unit off, refer to Gas Odor When Unit Is Off.
  2. Turn the gas supply source off. The gas shut-off valve can be almost anywhere within the home. The valve should be accessible and may be located directly behind the unit, in an adjacent cabinet, beneath the unit, in the basement, or in a crawl space.
  3. If the gas odor is still present even after turning the gas supply source off, contact the local gas supply or utility company.
